Fluorescent ink printing

Entwistle Group’s fluorescent ink printing service is becoming increasingly popular with our incredibly creative customers. Designers are choosing fluorescent ink (often referred to as neon ink) to produce print with stunning impact.

What are fluorescent inks?

Fluorescent inks contain pigments that have the ability to absorb Ultraviolet energy and virtually immediately re-emit this energy within the visible spectrum. The human eye perceives the print to glow and it appears very bright in daylight conditions.

What is the effect?

When the print is exposed to a strong light source the luminance of its colour increases and it glows more brightly giving unbelievably punchy and vibrant colours. When fluorescent inks are used on printed material that is positioned in dark environments with UV background illumination, the ink really does glow in the dark to huge effect.

Achieving stunning results requires the best print equipment available which is HP’s 7900 Indigo press working in conjunction with HP Indigo ElectroInk.  HP’s Electroink offers the widest colour gamut in digital production meaning we can hit those tricky colours time and time again. Add to this the ability to use Pantone spot colour along with White and Clear ink and we can deliver innovative eye catching print to match any brief.

How to get the best results printing with fluorescent ink

Paper is so often looked but for stunning results when printing with fluorescent inks a coated paper is going to give the highest quality. Coated papers have a very flat and smooth finish so the inks sit on top of the paper and there is no absorption. The ultra violet pigments can fully reflect the light back out (fluoresce) creating a very vivid and bright colour.

Our Experience

In early 2018 we installed Fluorescent Pink ink into our presses and instantly got amazing results. Complimentary artwork using the Fluorescent Pink along with White unlocked previously unachievable results using G F Smith coloured papers. Fast forward to 2019 and the Fluorescent Pink has been in such demand HP have now launched a Fluorescent Yellow, Orange and Green to expand the range.
